Special Facilities Planning and Design

Extensive research into educational facilities has led JMLA to a body of work tailored to university precincts, focusing on five years of guidance at the Sunshine Coast University College. JMLA designed the overall landscape and water-sensitive urban design structure and site nursery, and community precincts for three key buildings.

Our integrated living place designs, which focus around the concept of the ecovillage, incorporate a range of special facilities for work, live and play. At Caral Ecovillage at Toogoom, these facilities include a community school, shop-top studios, a health and recreation complex and a village hall.
Outstanding examples of special facilities planned include:

  • The Kingaroy Link building, Kingaroy, Queensland
  • The Hou Wang Interpretive Museum and Art Gallery, Atherton, Queensland
  • The Ulverstone History Museum and Art Gallery, Central Coast, Tasmania
  • The Lismore Cultural Precinct, Lismore, New South Wales
  • Loganlea Neighbourhood Centre and Community Park, Queensland

JMLA have established a strong track record with the master planning, detailed design and management of open space in urban centres and rural areas. We have specialised in the integration management and identity of central landmark parks throughout Australia, including Tasmania, Canberra and several Queensland towns.

JMLA have developed many innovative play and recreation facilities in the last ten years, some tailored to the specific requirements of users, such as the physically and partially disabled, the elderly, and the very young.

Outstanding examples of custom-designed play facilities include:

  • Young Children's Tactile Playground, Cleveland, Queensland
  • Young Children's Playground and Park, Loganlea, Queensland
